Welcome and Introductions

Kathy Olson (Project Staff, University of Kansas at Parsons) welcomed all committee members and introduced the representatives of the 12 Participant and 3 Alternative Organizations that were selected by the Kansas Advisory Committee (through the Selection subgroup) to participate in the Kansas project. She explained the selection process and thanked the selection subgroup for their work. In addition, Kathy introduced the following two other new committee members:

  • Delores Engel, Kansas State Director, U. S. Department of Labor, and
  • Loretta Shelley, Director of Apprenticeship, Kansas Apprenticeship Council.

Enclosed in your Advisory Committee information packet is the revised committee membership list.

Creating A Vision for the Kansas Project

John Sauer (Project Staff, University of Minnesota) facilitated a visioning process with all committee members to generate ideas about what the visions and outcomes of the Kansas project would look like 2 years from now. The results of that process were organized into three major categories and eight subcategories and presented in the document, Vision Results. That document is enclosed in your information packet. Six committee members volunteered to work with John Sauer to review the visioning results and help craft a vision statement to present to the Advisory Committee at its next meeting in March.

Overview of Possible Interventions

Sherri Larson (Co-Project Director, University of Minnesota) presented a list of possible interventions to include in the Kansas Workforce Development Plan. She also led the group in a discussion of these potential interventions and responded to committee member’s questions. A copy of Sherri’s power point presentation is enclosed in your information packet.

Identifying and Prioritizing Interventions for the Kansas Project

Amy Hewitt (Project Co-Director, University of Minnesota) led the Advisory group in a discussion and process to determine what specific interventions committee members want to include in the comprehensive Kansas Workforce Development Plan. Each person’s ideas were posted on a board. Then, each committee member was given an opportunity to vote for his or her top five intervention strategies. Staff categorized the intervention ideas into categories. The results of this process are included in the document, Priority Interventions, and enclosed in your information packet.

Credentialing Purpose and Framework

Marianne Taylor (Project Consultant, Human Services Research Institute) made a presentation and led the group in a discussion and visioning process to develop the framework for a voluntary credentialing program for Direct Support Professionals in Kansas. Marianne and the members of the Credentialing and Apprenticeship Affinity Group will meet via a telephone conference in February to select learner outcome criteria and a guiding set of principles for the credential framework. The group will present their work to the Advisory Committee at the March meeting. A copy of Marianne’s power point presentation and the results of the discussion and visioning process are included in your advisory committee member information packet.
